Sachse traces its roots to January 1845, when a wagon train of settlers that included Prussian immigrant William Sachse and the McCullough family arrived in the area after journeying from Lamar County. On May 23, 1845, William Sachse married Elizabeth McCullough Straily, a widow who held a 320-acre Peters Colony land grant spanning the Collin-Dallas county line; the couple went on to build the first cotton mill and gin in Collin County.
