Donna's origins trace to 1902, when Thomas Jefferson Hooks helped form the La Blanca Agricultural Company, which purchased roughly 23,000 acres fronting the Rio Grande. Hooks gave part of that land to his 21-year-old daughter, Donna Hooks Fletcher, who settled the area and established the Alameda Ranch. When the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway reached the site in July 1904, the town was founded, and in 1907 it received a rail depot.
