History of Raymondville

Raymondville was founded in 1904 by Edward Burleson Raymond, a former foreman on the King Ranch's El Sauz Ranch division and owner of the Las Majadas Ranch, who organized the Raymond Town and Improvement Company that year. Working alongside the Kleberg Town and Improvement Company, Raymond secured railroad right-of-way for the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway, and town lots were sold by Raymond and by Henrietta King, acting as an agent for the King Ranch. The town's population grew from 350 in 1914 to 1,800 by 1929, and Willacy County itself was carved out of Cameron and Hidalgo Counties in 1911, with Raymondville named its seat.
