Fulshear traces its name to Churchill Fulshear Sr., one of Stephen F. Austin's original 'Old Three Hundred' colonists, who received a land grant from the Mexican government and settled in the area in 1824. His son, Churchill Fulshear Jr., built a plantation with a cotton gin and flour mill on the site and constructed a four-story brick mansion in the 1850s.
