Robstown traces its founding to 1907, when Iowa land speculator George H. Paul purchased more than 10,400 acres of the old Driscoll Ranch and platted a townsite at the junction of the Texas-Mexican Railway and the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railroad. The town took its name from "Rob's Store," a shop run by rancher Robert Driscoll Jr., after locals began calling the growing settlement "Rob's town." Robstown was formally incorporated in 1912 with John L. Jacoby as its first mayor, and grew quickly as a truck-farming and cotton-ginning center once the surrounding Winter Garden farmland was developed and oil was discovered in Nueces County in 1930.
